I had a dream recently that a talk show host asked me which television characters I would date, if they existed in real life. (Yeah, the dream was weird, but if that was really what Craig Ferguson would ask me if I went on his show, I’d be prepared.) My response was to ask if he meant shows that were still creating new episodes, or if he meant ANY show that I’d ever seen. So, he asked for both. Here is what I said.

Shows still being made:

1. Doctor Reid from Criminal Minds
2. Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother
3. Leonard from Big Bang Theory

Shows that are no longer running:

1. Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls
2. Josh Burton from Eastwick
3. Gordo from Lizzie McGuire

The people in these lists are nerdy, nice, and sweet in their own way. They are supportive, fun characters that I still love to watch. But the ones that made it to the top of the list, on both sides, are really complex, and big readers. I never thought that I had a type, but apparently that’s it. I want a man who likes to read, and whose life hasn’t been entirely simple.

And it probably wouldn’t hurt if he had brown, curly hair.
